# Quick start

> Get your API key, add the endpoint to your MCP client and start chatting.

## 1. Get your API key

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Integrations">
    In the LinkedCamp app, go to [Settings → Integrations → API](https://app.linkedcamp.com/settings/integrations?type=api). API access needs a plan with Pro features (Pro or Agency) and the **Integrations** permission.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the API key">
    It's a UUID, for example `3f7c1a92-8e4b-4d1f-9c0a-2b5e8d4f6a11`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep it secret">
    Treat it like a password. Rotate it from the same page if it ever leaks.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  The key acts as you. Anyone who has it can launch campaigns and send messages from your account. Rotating it from Integrations invalidates the old key immediately. Billing, agency admin and team management stay blocked on the server whatever the key.
</Warning>

## 2. Connect your client

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Claude">
    In Claude on the web or desktop, add it as a custom connector and sign in. You don't paste the key into a config file.

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open connector settings">
        **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Paste the endpoint">
        ```text theme={null}
        https://mcp.linkedcamp.com/mcp
        ```
      </Step>

      <Step title="Authorize">
        Claude opens a LinkedCamp sign-in page. Paste your API key. It's the only credential the page accepts.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Use it">
        Start a chat: *"List my active campaigns and tell me which one has the best reply rate."*
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    <Tip>The connector uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Your API key is encrypted inside the access token and never appears in a URL or a log line.</Tip>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Claude Code">
    Register the remote HTTP server from the terminal:

    ```bash theme={null}
    claude mcp add --transport http linkedcamp https://mcp.linkedcamp.com/mcp \
      --header "X-Api-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"
    ```

    Then check that it registered:

    ```bash theme={null}
    claude mcp list
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Cursor / Windsurf / Zed">
    Add the server to your MCP config. For Cursor, that's `~/.cursor/mcp.json`:

    ```json theme={null}
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "linkedcamp": {
          "url": "https://mcp.linkedcamp.com/mcp",
          "headers": { "X-Api-Key": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
        }
      }
    }
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="ChatGPT">
    The easiest way is the official plugin:

    <Card title="LinkedCamp for ChatGPT" icon="openai" href="https://chatgpt.com/plugins?search=linkedcamp">
      Install the plugin to run campaigns, work the inbox and pull analytics from a ChatGPT chat, with no config file.
    </Card>

    You can also add the server as a custom connector:

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open connector settings">
        **Settings → Connectors** → add a custom connector using the Streamable HTTP transport.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Paste the endpoint">
        ```text theme={null}
        https://mcp.linkedcamp.com/mcp
        ```
      </Step>

      <Step title="Authorize">
        ChatGPT opens a LinkedCamp sign-in page. Paste your API key. It's the only credential the page accepts.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Use it">
        Start a chat: *"Show me the campaigns that replied best this month."*
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    <Note>Custom connectors aren't available on every ChatGPT plan, and on some they're behind developer mode. If you can't see the option, check your plan.</Note>
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## 3. First conversation

Ask the assistant to call `whoami` first. It reports your plan and permissions, which decide which tools and sequence steps you can use. Then try:

* *"Which of my campaigns has the best acceptance rate this month?"*
* *"Draft replies to my unread interested leads."*
* *"Create a draft campaign for CTOs in fintech and show me the sequence before launching."*

## Authentication

| Client type | How the key is sent |
| - | - |
| Claude and ChatGPT connectors | OAuth 2.1 + PKCE. You paste the key once on the LinkedCamp sign-in page. |
| Config-file clients (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed) | `X-Api-Key` HTTP header on every request. |
